Development Assistant

American University School of Public Affairs

In this role, I served as a data-driven strategist for the university’s $500 million "Change Can’t Wait" campaign. I drove strategic fundraising by utilizing databases to analyze alumni net worth, property values, and corporate affiliation. I prepared comprehensive city and state reports to pinpoint potential contributors. This allowed senior staff to prioritize regional outreach and ensured their fundraising trips were worth the trip. To keep things personal, I wrote over 100 personalized acknowledgement letters per semester. This made sure our donors felt more than just a line on a spreadsheet. My dual focus on analytical targeting and thoughtful communication ensured high donor retention and helped build a sustainable pipeline for the university’s long-term financial goals. I learned to navigate complex CRM systems and translate raw wealth indicators into actionable engagement strategies.

Resident Editor

The Public Purpose Journal

I worked one-on-one with authors to tighten their arguments, fix their research methods, and keep everything strict on AP Style. I executed first-line and copy-editing for both short-form digital pieces and long-form print articles. Throughout the time, I strictly adhered to the journal’s style while maintaining the author’s unique voice. I led multiple rounds of drafts, collaborating closely with graduate-level writers to refine their research methods and structural flow. This process enhanced the journal's overall academic rigor. I coached authors on incorporating multimedia elements and tailored content for different platforms, ensuring pieces were optimized for digital engagement without losing their scholarly depth.

Legislative Intern

United States Senate

As the only intern in the office, I operated at the intersection of legislative policy, communications, and constituent services. I did everything from drafting policy memos on financial, environmental, and technology committee hearings to handling a constant stream of calls and emails from constituents. I also played a key role in the Financial Innovation Caucus, helping organize events designed to bridge the gap between global fintech trends and domestic regulatory policy.

Communications Intern

Bank Policy Institute

In this position, I led the digital modernization of a leading financial think tank by spearheading the launch of their first Instagram account. I also supported the research team by monitoring congressional hearings and financial news, providing time-sensitive briefings that kept senior staff ahead of policy shifts. My technical role involved managing the organization’s digital footprint via WordPress and Mailchimp, where I optimized website content and formatted high-stakes communications. This role sharpened my ability to translate complex banking policies into engaging, digestible digital content.

Graduate Assistant

American University Office of Student Accountability & Restorative

In this role, I balanced administrative adjudication with proactive community education. I presided over 100+ student disciplinary and restorative conferences per semester, a responsibility that required a deep understanding of university policy and a commitment to due process. I was tasked with explaining complex incident reports and sanctions to students, ensuring they felt heard while maintaining the integrity of the Student Conduct Code. To move the office from a reactive to a proactive model, I designed and delivered educational programs for Greek life, study abroad, and student organizations to reduce conduct violations before they occurred. I also led the Empower AU and Off-Campus Living orientations, focusing on consent, bystander intervention, and community success. Through data tracking and survey design, I provided the office with insights into student perceptions, directly influencing how we recruited and trained the student conduct council.

Outreach Chair

American University Beekeeping Society

The highlight of attending American University was serving on the executive board of the Beekeeping Society as the Outreach Chair. In this role, I successfully planned a visit to the Canadian embassy for a tour of their rooftop hives. As well as a private tour of the U.S. Botanic Garden led by an entomologist who taught us about the DMV and garden-specific pollinators. I also helped plan and moderate a campus “Bees, Peace, & Spirituality Panel.” The enlightening panel discussed sustainability as an aspect of international peace, the connection between environmentalism and spirituality, and the religious history of bees.
